The idea of Trash Dashers came after missing yet another trash day pick-up. As a mom of four boys, life can be chaotic and busy. Some months, we forget to take the trash out, more often than we remember. When our trash bins are almost overflowing in the middle of the week, you can only imagine what two weeks’ worth of trash looks like – now it’s a fat raccoon! I have sticky notes around the house as a reminder to never miss trash day again! During one of these moments of frustration, I came up with the idea of Trash Dashers, but not for me. 

As a mom, my top priority has always been instilling my boys with valuable life skills. In our house, chores are a responsibility, so there’s no allowance. They ask me for small jobs around the house to earn extra money, creating another problem. If you live in Bellvue Forest, you have probably seen my boys selling rocks, washing cars, or breakdancing to make money to buy candy at the local 7-11. 

Trash Dashers provides a service and, more importantly, is an opportunity to teach my kids entrepreneurial skills and fund their daily trips to 7-11. In the future, I would love to expand and provide other kids with the same opportunity. I imagine something along the lines of a ‘micro franchise’ to build a community of kidpreneaurs!
